DPP exposure compensation Q's

Trying to understand how to "develop" a pair of images at different exposure settings in Canon's DPP. (Yeah, I just went live with RAW today, finally :lol3).

Is the Brightness setting in the top right dialog the same thing as an exposure adjust? If so, is that measured in stops?

And do the brightness settings within the RAW image adjustment tab or the RGB image adjustment tab work the same way? Should I only use the RAW side for RAW images? Or dosn't it matter?

I must say, the PDF file that ships with the software sucks eggs big time. And Canon's online tutorial section isn't much better.

I did search in Dgrin for DPP, exposure, and dynamic range and came up with Andy's tute as well as about a half dozen others. Really helpful resources here. It's just that documentation for DPP itself is horrible!

So I guess a side question for those folks that develop different images from one RAW (for purposes of increasing dynamic range) with DPP, what settings are most useful for accomplishing that?

Thanks!
