Using Facebook to link back to Unlisted Gallery

RRSPhotoRRSPhoto Registered Users Posts: 9 Big grins

I am rebuilding my website and setting up a Facebook page for the 1st time. I do a lot of work that I put in unlisted galleries. When I use Publish to Facebook, the pictures do not link back to SmugMug. When I use share, the photo links back to the photo in SmugMug as a full size individual picture. Is there a way to easily put one picture on Facebook and have it open the gallery page of the unlisted gallery? The galleries are youth sports; I want the viewer to see that there are many to choose from.

If you just use the gallery URL (copy it from the URL address bar in your browser or grab the "Gallery" link from the Share Panel), Facebook will pull in the feature photo of that gallery, but link to the entire gallery.

I am probably missing a key point here. I went back and featured a photo in several galleries, unlisted and public. If I share the picture from SmugMug to Facebook, the picture in Facebook links back to the copy in SmugMug. If I put a link for the gallery page in Facebook, the link works but there is no picture. I am convinced that a picture will generate more hit than a link.

Would you mind linking me to a few examples where there's no picture? It should always pull in a photo, whether it's your galleries' feature photo, your profile photo, etc (unless none of those are set).

The first time facebook receives a link, they query the page for any images on it and then store that. If someone else shares that link, facebook already has it in their database and doesn't have to go out to the site and get it again. This saves them a lot of money, but also means if you change your page afterwards, they have old data. It's possible they queried your site before you set the Feature Image. You can use this website at Facebook to update the image is detects: https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/ (or I can help do it for ya).
