Custom Domain

I have made the DNS changes required to redirect my domain name to my SM site, but the domain name is then displayed as philcorley.smugmug.com in the browser. What I want is for it to display my custom domain name. Thinking I needed to change the Custom Domain Name field in settings, I tried this - but if I enter the domain name www.philcorley.com, it rejects the entry and won't save

Custom Domain: www.philcorley.com
The error message is: There was a problem with the entry. Please check the field and try again.

Any ideas?

Phil

I assume you have already seen the help page, but just in case... http://help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/articles/93340-how-do-i-use-my-custom-domain-

Point your CNAME 'www' to domains.smugmug.com.
Within the domain forwarding area, point the version of your domain address without the www to the address with the www: example.com > www.example.com.
    • Using a subdomain to point at SmugMug? There is no need to set up an A Record.
Visit your SmugMug Account Settings > Me > Account tab for the "Custom Domain" line. Paste your new domain name into the box and click "Save Changes."

In Account Settings > Me > Account tab:

    • the Site URL must be your SmugMug URL
    • the Custom Domain must be your custom URL

The other wrinkle is to make sure the entries in your menu content block are not hard-coded with your smugmug URL. They either need to be shortcuts (which I recommend) or they need to use your domain name. For example, the URL for the Kaleidoscope page on my site is specified as /Kaleidoscope/.

    Hi Denise

Yes followed the help page - well at least my DNS providers did.

`In Account Settings > Me > Account tab:

the Site URL must be your SmugMug URL
the Custom Domain must be your custom URL`

Yes - the site URL is correct, but it won't let me entered the custom domain name; just tells me: There was a problem with the entry. Please check the field and try again.

But it is right - so something is wrong somewhere :-(

Yes will resolve the wrinkles on the site to ensure linkage is via the proper domain name - once I get the domain set-up correctly

You might want to contact the help desk - http://help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/emails/new. They should be able to straighten it out.

With the company that you registered the domain with, did you setup the CNAME to point to the proper smugmug URL? If that's setup properly, the error message in account settings will go away.

I have asked them to check - according to the DIY Help Page it should point to domains.smugmug.com. I am assuming it has been set-up this way; but I expect not !

Will come back when I hear from them
