Pro-grade Command Line Utility for Linux?

I'm starting to write a SmugMug command line utility for Linux. I need something that scales and that integrates easily into various workflows and existing applications. I'm experimenting with different interface models, although I'm leaning towards something similar to ftp or smbclient, that is, with both command line and interactive modes. I'm also toying with a FUSE application, although that seems like a dreadful level of overkill.

Does anyone here know if such a thing already exists? All the command line tools I know of are too simple or broke after the conversion to New Smug.
