Anything I should be doing aside from reading the manual (already downloaded)? You have no idea how excited I am....

Are you moving up from the F717? If so did you use the F717 on priority settings/manual settings?

You're really going to enjoy the speediness of the 20D!

Yeah, I mostly used the F717 on manual. The shutter and focus lag are really starting to bug me. I figure this will be a bit of a step up. :D

Well, after you fiddle a bit, put it on burst mode and press the shutter and hold on! :): It may not be the fastest fps, but it's plenty quick for me and the cameras I moved up from.

Agreed. When I upgraded from my Digital Rebel that was the first thing I tried. I shoot a lot of baseball so this was a major plus for me.

To really wow you doing this, make sure you set it to manual and up the shutter speed to at least 1/500. I have done this in "P" mode indoors or with the lens cap still on just to hear it, and of course the fps is much slower, as each exposure takes longer.

    Awwww.....LUCKY!

I just bought a house...so the dSLR (rebel xt) will have to wait probably another year.

Oh well, I'll master the Canon A95 point and shoot...and then when I handle a SLR It'll be like taking candy from a baby.

    But congrats man, that's exciting.

    Just two observations so far:

    1. IS is the coolest thing since sliced bread.

    2. 5 fps may even be cooler than that.

    Back to fiddling...

Tristan, you'll love this new rig!

#1 thing to do - adjust the diopter properly. mwink.gif

The manual is available on line, so you can print it out at 8½ x 11 and save your eyes from that little black book-sized whatever they give you. Then you can also mark up the bigger reprint with user notes.
    http://www.eosdoc.com and http://origin37.tripod.com/

The new smell wears off after a few days, so savor it.

You'll want to get a hand strap, if you haven't already.
http://dgrin.smugmug.com/gallery/1075510 or the Hakuba, from B&H.

Update the firmware if you don't have 2.0.3
    http://www.canon.co.jp/Imaging/eos20d/eos20d_firmware-e.html

The 20D and some decent lenses will give your arm a real workout (compared with a 7-series cam). Health club membership optional, but suggested.

Learn the Canon DPP software for RAW. If they didn't ship version 2, then you can download the (48MB upgrade - gulp) at:
    http://www.dpreview.com/news/0510/05101301canon_dpp203.asp
    http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=DownloadIndexAct

    Congrats!

    EDIT:
Ha! I see that you've updated your avatar as I was writing this. lol3.gif

Thanks for the links. I'll check them out later this weekend. I'm helping a fellow Audi/Canon owner tomorrow take some pics of a modified Porsche Carerra GT. He's doing most of the shooting, but I'll see if I can get some time behind the glass, too. Should give the new camera a workout. thumb.gif
