iris, an introduction

I always look forward to the time of year when iris makes an appearance in the gardens near me. It's a favorite flower, delicate and intricate.
Here are a few of the flowers that caught my eye this season. All but the last are of the bearded variety.
1 :: edged in purple
2 :: subtle in white (replaced after change driven by comments)
3 :: pure deep purple
4 :: rusty colors shine in late day light
5 :: shades of purple and lilac
6 :: unlike the others, a non-bearded iris, partially open

I really like the purple and lilac, but that first shot is just stunning.

Beautiful set. #3 is a standout with the color and water drops.

Thanks Jo! I'm always happy to wander the garden in the rain.

Well, I suppose it depends what you were after / trying to achieve - and I'm going to be the odd one out here, but to my eyes there are too many distracting 'eye pulls' in frame for each of them.
Obviously I don't know if there were any practical limitations re where you could be in relation to the subject - and if no limitations - whether any degree of 'gardening/ scene tweaking*' was allowed in order to control what's in frame other than the main subject.

There were definitely limitations as I was in a public garden with very narrow paths between the flower beds.
I like what I think you are calling distractions but that is clearly a personal preference. I greatly appreciate your comments and your point of view; it's always good to listen and to apply changes. Thanks!

Yeah its hard to get public space to yourself......one trick to keep bg clean of distractions might be to take a different angle so at least right behind the flower there is some uniformity....or get low enough to use sky as bg....
The colors are wonderful and light is nice, but bg has some distractions as noted above....
For me #6 is best.....I don't think that has any issues with bg.
Cheers Denise!
As I noted above, some of what you and pp are calling distractions were deliberate. We all have different desires for our images.
I do appreciate input though, many thanks for the suggestions Taz!

Well, I respect that we all have our own desires for pics that we take - my comments were made on the basis of how I feel when I see one of my own pics when I see something on screen - in the comfort of home - that I'd missed at the time of pressing the shutter - ie pilot error.
Because my main 'go to' local venue is also a public space, I also have to contend with stuff I'd prefer didn't exist - and one aspect is having a darned great white blob' of a swan come into frame - in the distant bg - just as shutter is pressed - since this, for me invariably ruins the pic I was after - I can't help but wonder how you consider the WB in top right corner of No2 adds to that pic?
Since S mentioned No6 and my initial comments applied to all frames - the main thing here (as with 1, in fact) is the breaking of the main subject's silhouette (in this manner) by some other element in frame - edge of frame (L) for No1 and blade for #6'

My favorite is no 6, Denise. Lovely color and good bg.
