An image from the TogsQuad visit to the Silk Mill in Derby, UK, last night. The "14-18 Now - Weeping Window" exhibition started life in the grounds of the Tower Of London and is now "on tour".
The exhibition remembers through the poppies all the lives that were tragically lost during that terrible conflict.

That is incredible!
I assume those are live poppies - do you have any information on how they managed to get them to grow up the building like this?

It's an art sculpture. Very neat idea though.

Clever idea and a powerful memorial. Thanks for posting this.
Ah, I should have known that as a poppy bloom is very fleeting. Definitely a great idea!

Really beautiful!
Beautiful... thanks for posting
Unfortunately not real poppies Denise but ceramic ones, every single one handmade. The original display at the Tower Of London in 2014 had 888,246 poppies cascading down from one of the towers windows and then spreading out into and around the moat. The display in the Tower Of London was a powerful commemoration for the 100 year anniversary of the First World War. Each poppy represented a British military fatality during the war.
Smaller displays of the poppies are now visiting a few places here in the UK. The Silk Mill is now a museum of local history and has such things as Rolls Royce aero engines and scale models of steam trains, all that were made in Derby.
Thanks to everyone for the kind words. Really appreciated.
Powerful and beautiful photo. You thought this one out well and the result speaks for itself.
