Song Sparrow
Caught a few of these guys the other day when I was chasing the Virginia Rails.

I love those little birds. Wish they didn't "flit". I do have some to work up, but somehow overlook them. Really cool shots, those and your Rail ones.

Thank you Al. The first 2 are cropped to about 60% of the orginal image, the last one to about 50%.

The first lloks a bit soft, probably due to the cropping. On the second I might have use shadow/highlights a tad to get some shadow detail in.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
Thanks Howard () :lol4
I couldn't decide if the eye was soft in the first because of the crop or because he moved his head a tad. At 100% the feathers on the shoulder look very sharp. Maybe I needed more DOF
I thought about lightening up the shadows, but I though it looked better with the higher contrast . I've also been using the Fill Light feature in Raw Shooter Premium for lightening shadows, it's a lot faster than PS's Shadow/Highlight and seems to work just as well. I haven't done any pixel to pixel comparisons though.
Thanks,

Same shot above using CS Shadow/Highlight
and now with RSP Fill light adjustment
Opinions? Thoughts??
Takes about 5 seconds to use Fill light on RSP. Shadow/Highlight takes quite a bit longer, runs slower (at least on my machine), more settings to fiddle with. May possibly give better results if you're willing to take the time to get there.

Your little birds are alway so pretty, and convey such a sense of beauty that I find it hard to fault your work. But one comment if you don't mind. The little guy seems to have been shot through the heart with a twig. I guess you missed the twig for the forest. I think the CS2 is slightly better, if one were looking for perfection, however the other is very, very close. It depend on what use the picture serves whether or not to save the steps. My opinion only, of course Art is in the eyes of the beholder.
