Background images larger than X3

Do page backgrounds show at larger sizes than X3? I've set up the background to source from a gallery with Maximum Display Size set to Original, but on a 4K monitor I only see a X3-sized background (per the image URL and associated upscaled look to the image). The images have larger variants (I can see the larger variants by going to the gallery or accessing the URL directly), so is there something I'm missing to get the larger images to show for the background?

Currently background images max out at X3 and don't take advantage of our new larger image sizes. I'd love to get that changed at some point but have no estimate on when we'll increase the size.
