1 Time Use Coupons

I want to be able to have a coupon that is restricted to 1 time use but can be used once by different people. For example, if I'm trying to entice people to sign up for email marketing, I want to offer them a coupon for xx% off their first purchase, i.e. only use once for that customer. SmugMug's Maximum Uses qualifier is a 1 time use regardless of who uses it. So I give the same coupon code to 10 people, the first one to use it wins. The other 9 lose out. Any ideas how to do something like this?

Currently you would need to create a different coupon code for each person.

With one time use per person as described we wouldn't actually have a way to determine if that specific customer already used it. Meaning if you created a coupon and allowed 10 uses the first customer could use the code and place up to 10 orders with the code applied.

If you don't think the customer would place multiple orders then, setting the coupon up for 10 uses would be a feasible work around, with each customer use the coupon once.
