Smugmug help suggested I seek help from the folks here.
I would like to remove the sitewide navigation bar from a couple of landing pages to keep the viewer just on the page that they were sent to.
The helpdesk were of the opinion that advanced css might be needed but I have no knowledge in that area.
Is it possible please?

There is an option you can use if you want to remove all trace of you and use a standard smugmug look instead. See Hide account owner information for a gallery to see if this feature meets your needs. From that help page:
If you want to keep your site identity on these pages but simply remove the menu, you will need to use CSS. In order to help we will need a link to your site and to the pages that you want to change.

Add this to your site-wide theme's CSS:

You also may want to turn of the SmugMug header. It defaults to on but it really does nothing to enhance your site. To turn it off:

I'm a bit surprised that you haven't removed the smugmug header and switched to the mini-footer. This change would make your site look more professional. Perhaps you missed my post about this, take a look at the post 2 back from this one.
