THUMBNAIL CROPPING

I have just changed from Collage Portrait to Thumbnails (12px) and really like the formality.
The only issue is every so often a portrait will have the head cropped off.
Is there a way to fix this?

I think you are seeing small images not actual thumbnails. I think the only style you get actual thumbnails is the Smugmug style gallery.

I see the problem on your site with images that are in a portrait orientation. It appears that the thumbnail is fine if the head is just above the vertical center of the image but not if the head is near the top of the image.
For example:

http://www.richardparisphotography.ca/PORTRAITSERIES/SINGULARITY/i-rqzhkRm/A has the head cropped off
You can change the aspect ratio for thumbnail galleries but if you have a mix of landscape- and portrait-oriented photos I believe you will see this problem no matter which aspect ratio you choose.
Unfortunately I am not aware of a way to fix this.
There is a request on the smugmug feature request page to support customization of crops for thumbnail style galleries - https://feedback.smugmug.com/forums/17723-smugmug/suggestions/7078350-customize-crops-in-thumbnails-gallery-style.

Thanks Denise.
1:1 seems to work okay for problematic galleries, however, the trade off is the landscape format suffers.
