CREATING DROPDOWN/FLYOUTS

I am doing a major site cleanup/reorganization because my years of bad uploading/organizing habits are coming back to bite me.
As part of this cleanup I would like to consolidate various galleries under main menu headings.
For example, let's say, a menu heading is PORTRAITS and when clicked a dropdown appears with the various GALLERY names listed.
ideally, since my MENU design is vertical I would prefer drop downs.
Is this possible?
And, can this happen within the SmugMug settings or is code required?

You can create dropdown menus using the standard SmugMug menus. For a starting point take a look at the section "Create a Dropdown Menu" on the help page Create a navigation menu.

PART DEUX...
Now that this will work it looks pretty clunky.
I am wondering if I can modify the dropdown/flyout so it:
1.Drops down vertically in line with the menu block.
2.Change the spacing between the headings - change font colour and background colour.
Note: I am using PORTRAITS as my test.
