A Gnarly One

This is a very large tree on the path to the templo in Tepoztlán, Morelos, Méjico. It's probably 6' in diameter and only 30-40 feet high. This is some gnarly tree.

My sobrina says she expects mythical beasts to come out of the knots

    Glad you like this, Rags

I've been trying to identify this tree with no luck so far.

Anybody who can help should chime in here.

What interests me is how did it happen? hundreds of years of turning - seeking the sun?

Great find. The more I look at it, the more faces and figures I see.

I always wanted to lie naked on a bearskin rug in front of a fireplace. Cracker Barrel didn't take kindly to it.

Does the same thing for me. The bark looks like rhinoceros hide
