Prevent horizontal scrolling on desktop?

Hi,
For some reason when I view my site on a desktop with my 23" monitor the horizontal scroll bar appears and it allows you to scroll slightly to the right, even though there is no content to view.
The scroll bar isn't there when I view on the laptop screen.
Is there a way to hide the scroll bar?
All of my content, gallery boxes and slideshows are set to align either edge to edge or with a small border. There is no need to scroll to the the left or right. All of my slideshow images are in the same 3:1 aspect ratio.
