Guest Upload without Stripping EXIF on iOS

When my friends use a "guest upload" with an iPhone, and they choose photos from their Camera Roll, the EXIF data is not transferred with the photos. This problem happens with both Safari or with Chrome on an iPhone.

Any tips on how to keep the EXIF data on photos uploaded with an iPhone by a guest user?

I tried having my friends FIRST move their iPhone photos to GoogleDrive, and THEN they could successfully transfer the photos w/ EXIF to SmugMug from GoogleDrive (using their iPhones). But this two-step transfer process is really not very nice.
