So if one were to THINK about photographing birds...not saying this is me or anything:rofl but, where would one find these so called birds? :dunno
I saw a red cardinal outside my window one day.....I think that's what it was... it was red.

Well that's the easy part just about everywhere. Your backyard is a great start (use mine all the time)
Wildlife habitat in your area, driving down the frwy (disregrad that :wow), etc. etc.

Anyway I got a small feeder and just started feeding birds and waiting - soon enough they arent afraiid of you if you are nice and still - be patient. They will come ...... I can say that Im glad I started "shooting" birds.... Here is one I just took 10 minutes ago!
BTW, I use canon 20D w/ 400 f/5.6

Where are you located? We might be able to send you to a great spot to see if you like the birds.:harry
Bob.
Shannon,
As mentioned, they're everywhere...lol You can put out a feeder, like Troy. Or, check out any bodies of water near you. Like lakes or reservoirs, or even rivers or streams. You can usually find lots of birds near water.
Watch out though, as Troy eluded, this kind of shooting is very addictive

My "place". The backyard is pretty good for birds.

It seems to me that our yard is kinda scarce as far as birds go...or maybe they are hiding b/c I hear them chirping away all the time. The next sunny day we get (it's suppose to rain for the next few days!) I'll go and sit on our back porch and FOCUS on trying to find these chirpy birds.
Maybe just maybe you will see some bird pictures posted by me...
Oh Troy I do like that picture you posted!
Another question is it possible to get a good bird picture with 70-300 lens? It's kinda a crappy lens I hardly use it. I bought it years ago like 10 years ago and it's a sigma. I also have a Canon 28-105 and others but those are the longest lens I have
Oh, and I live In Athens GA
The longer the lens the better. You should be able to get some decent shots with your Zoom, but if you find out that you really like it, then you might consider a longer lens. In a way it's discouraging that the really good lenses are so expensive. The Canon 400 mm f 5.6 is a great one though at a reasonable price, but still over $1000.
Have fun and show us your shots once you get some.
