Hi,
should I add the smugmug address www.site/sitemap-index.xml address in the google search console or is it automatic for google ?
other related question: what is the impact if I create another sitemap file based on the original smugmug and fill it in the search consol ? it is to see if we can change priorities or not.
Thanks,
Etienne

I'm pretty sure you'll have to add your site's sitemap to your GSC. That said, Google is pretty good with finding/indexing your content, not like it was 15 years ago. My last website I created, I didn't bother creating a sitemap and Google finds my content just fine.

thanks for the answer
one more question about sitemap:
how are the priorities of the pages in the sitemap file generated by smugmug? example : 0.8 </ priority>
Sometimes it's 0.8, 0.9, 0.7 ...
Is it possible for the user to choose these priority values?
other than the main page which is normally 1

SmugMug doesn't allow editing the sitemap. Do not concern yourself with your sitemap.

Ok. I understand that this is not related to the site map.
is it possible that the system page like mysmugmugsite/password is not indexed by google?
mysmugmugsite/password appears in the google search result and it may be strange for the public
The sitemap can't be manually edited and there's not an option to exclude the password page from it. It's a system page that many SmugMug users add information on for visitors and search engines to index, especially if their entire site is password protected. If a site is password protected, the password page is really the only page search engines can index and visitors without the password can view.
In regards to your initial question, generally there's no need to manually add a sitemap to Google as we already inform Google of the sitemap in the robots.txt page of your site.

ok thanks.
I concur with you that the /password page should not be getting indexed by search engines. I'll add it to the teams backlog to add the NOINDEX flag to it.

Does anyone know how often SM updates the sitemap?
Several days ago I added a “blog” page and the sitemap does not list it. I believe the date on the sitemap is 8-23.
(Sorry about resurrecting an old thread)
The more important thing is, is your blog indexed by Google? What is your blog?
It really isn't necessary to have a sitemap, provided your site navigation is clear (easy to be found).

According to Google they haven't indexed anything yet. I was going to submit the SM sitemap, but it's not up to date. Just wondering when it gets updated. Once a week? Once a month?
Only Google knows. SmugMug doesn't control indexing.
Why not create a post on your Facebook Page including a link to your blog?
