Thanks Mike and Harry. I was really lucky he came right over me, or normally 300mm wouldn't do it very well. The exposure was sheer guess, and I was lucky on that too. No changes at all in processing, just a little unshapren mask. I barely got him in the frame because I'm not used to aiservo, and not used to not hearing a focus beep. They do have beautiful feather designs huh.
So thats an Osprey, thanks I need to bone up on birds if I'm going to shoot them.....or ask you guys the experts!:D
Good "guess" on the exposure! It's easy to meter the sky and get a very dark bird.
Might bump the shutter speed just a tad with flying birds (say 1/1000 or faster) to freeze the wings, although movement can work too if that was your intent.... :
