Downgrading from Power to Basic - What about custom URL?

If I downgrade to the basic account and remove my custom domain in account settings, will there be a bunch of dead links floating around search engines? How will people find my site in the future? I know that my SmugMug nickname will work but what about all the links to my custom URL? What happens when people click on them and will those links eventually drop out of the search results?

One more thing, with a basic account, there is no way to have a gallery cover image across the top, is there, or arranging of photos. Really, there is no customization in galleries at all with a basic account, is there? Thanks.
