Amsterdam canal at night

Another from the Europe trip, here's a shot of Amsterdam around 1am. The sun never really set all the way here, as you can see in the photo, with a bit of light still happening in the distant sky. However, the city is all hustle & bustle, all day, all night, all morning and repeat.

Funfact: The lots in the city were taxed based upon frontage. So a wide building paid more tax than a narrow building. In order to avoid high taxation, people would buy a small lot, build a narrow building, and go upward with the construction. That's why there are so many 2-rooms-wide, multi-story high buildings in the city! Many of the stair cases are too small to even get a small chair up into the rooms, so there are hoisting beams with rope & pulley systems at the tops of the buildings, which are still used today to get large items to the upper floors.

Nice shot and interesting story about the buildings.

I always wanted to lie naked on a bearskin rug in front of a fireplace. Cracker Barrel didn't take kindly to it.

Brilliant exposure JBR! Nothing blew out or got too hot and very balanced! Looks beautiful! I would explore taking half to three quarter of the inch from bottom to keep focus on best part. Cheers!
