Blue Hawker Aeshna cyanea Laying Eggs

Also known as the Southern Hawker, this green-marked female was very persistent in alighting on the rotting tree and feeling around for places to insert her ovipositor and was clearly laying eggs. If I made a slight move and disturbed her she was back within seconds. This session lasted several minutes.

This was beside Pond 1 at Decoy Heath Nature Reserve on 25 July.
