Thread continued here from the whipping post because the whipping post does not allow me to post a 2nd version of the image
This message is continued from this thread where we were originally discussing this image. After collecting useful feedback in the whipping post topic area, I made a new version of this image that attempts to incorporate the feedback received. Specifically I've changed it in post processing to::
This is in Resurrection Bay in Alaska. 1/500, f/4, ISO 200, Nikon D70, 70-200VR at 70mm with circular polarizer taken from aboard a boat.

- Preserve highlights in water, boat and snow
- Remove excess blue and/or green cast in some places
- Clone out an object floating on the water

It was good to start, but now it is ready for calendar or poster sale. :-)

It's so good, it would also be a wonderful addition to the [url=http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=20074before / after thread[/url] in the Whipping Post forum
Seriously, John - wonderful job. Print it. Print it big, and hang it. This would be great also for a lodge in Tahoe - betcha you could sell it.

Thanks for the encouragement. I will post it in the before/after when I'm sure I'm done.
Ironically, I almost missed this image. I shot it in July and just now realized it could be something interesting. I discovered it because I was looking for some of my own images to use to illustrate post processing techniques in my pending writeup of Chapter 14 of Dan Margulis' book. I used a technique from that chapter to bring out detail in a few areas of this photo. It will appear as a sample image in that writeup when I get the writeup done, probably next week.
I will likely be printing it. Maybe even a 20x30.
