Saw this while on a walk here in Pa. today. Never seen one like it before.

From the limited view (underside only) and description provided, absolute identification is rather tenuous, but from the web type, general body type and leg markings my best guess is:

"Marbled Orb-weaver", aka "Araneus marmoreus", aka "Pumpkin Spider".

Reference: Spiders in Pennsylvania, Araneus marmoreus

Man, I hate spiders. A friend was bitten twice in a three month period by Brown Recluse spiders out in his workshop. Both times, the wounds were ghastly. The one on his hand even exposed bone. The treatments for the bites were long, expensive, and painful.

I always wanted to lie naked on a bearskin rug in front of a fireplace. Cracker Barrel didn't take kindly to it.
