Walk to the Lab

Hi all,

My daily trip to the lab was a touch more interesting this morning. It had frozen hard over night. The barbed wire was looking particulally threaterning:

There was heavy (and very cold) traffic on the way down King's Parade, this is by no means unusual, however I was down there at about 08:55, when it's especially bad...

Some however, were not pleased by the ice. Pleasing to the eye, but not to the beak perhaps:

However there was some nice light to be had for the taking as it caught the trees that haven't lost all their foliage:

A nice walk, if rather cold on the hands. It seems cameras are not designed to be held with very thck gloves on...

A few more can be seen here: (as well as these, slightly larger)

And now I really should do some work I guess...

Comments, suggestions and critques are always welcome.

Have a nice day,

Luke

    Morning images
I really like the barbed wire shot - the only 'barbs' are rather temporary but menacing looking. And the blue color of the wire is nice and cold.

I know that when whites are overexposed it is called 'blown'. What is it called when blacks are too black? 'Sucked'? ne_nau.gif The raven has no detail visible. Maybe could be recovered in PS?

Thanks. Yeah, it wasn't very worrying on the way back at lunch time.

Hehehe, perhaps :): There wasn't much detail in the crow in the RAW file, just some feather detail. I'd kind of intended it to be a bit silhouette like anyway, so I applied a curve to push it all to black.

Maybe a bit later on this evening I'll try and see what it's like with the feathers back in.

    Thanks for the comments.

crushed, as in you've crushed the blacks...you've crushed the shadows, at least that's what we call it in the motion picture industry. The opposite is milky, when you don't have true blacks, as in "your blacks are milky"

No, it started raining and washed the frost off the trees before there was any chance of a shot :cry

    Cheers
