The Springtail season has started

The first of the "Winter" springtails I have spotted. Sminthurinus niger (the dark one) and Sminthurinus domesticus grazing on the top of an upturned clay pot. The body lengths are less than 1.0mm (and yes the shots have been cropped).

Yes, I have started to find some of the larger globular ones but they have not kept still long enough for framing or focus.
They share much the same habitats as some of the slime moulds, which are of similar size range.
