Hoping for some help with customizing captions in a slideshow

Hello. I have a slideshow of fifty-seven photos. This fixes the order of viewing, similar to the way pages in a paper photography book do. But a Smugmug slideshow requires that the captions must be embedded in the images, and this defaces them with text, and makes the captions hard to read. I want the captions to be outside and below the photos. I have no coding skills, but I'm eager to learn what I need to so I can solve this problem. Any suggestions about how to proceed? Paul

You can turn off the captions. Go to Slideshow > Playback > Captions(off).

I also dearly wish that there was an easy and reliable method to display slideshow gallery captions BELOW the images. This seems so basic to me. But AFAIK, it still requires some serious CSS trickery. This thread offers some clues but not the whole story: https://dgrin.com/discussion/comment/2076164
