Hello everyone..
This is technically my second post, so I am saying "Hi" to everyone. I have lingered forever, but not posted...how lame is that!:rolleyes
So here are some samples of shots I have been focusing on in the last couple weeks. I shoot horses in lots of ways, but working with light is my fav.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
You may have to "draw me a picture".... but only once!
Thanks, by the way!

Oh. Well, if it's only on your HD, then attaching is your only option. Linking via URL only works for online images.

Just great. And almost anyone can get you 5.00 off.
I am about to get my second one myself. I just have been sick with like the flu or something and my brain won't work. So I have procrastinated on the buying, but I would do it now, if I were you, before the prices go up.

OK,
Now I cannot tell you how much I like that lighting! I have thought of doing that for so many times, so many challenges here, so much.
How did you do it???? You have a horse, can't bring it in the house? Do you turn off all the lights and shine just one on him?
Now, I am getting ready to spend a bit of my tax return...........would I need special equipment. I don't want to put a lot of money into lighting, but what would I need???
Please don't disappear again w/o telling me that! I love that lighting! And I need to know NOW! Or by Friday my discretionery money could be gone.
It just occurred to me that I don't have a horse. My friends/relatives live nowhere near me. One is moving closer though. I am not a pro, I shoot birds, landscapes, my dogs (not much lately).
But if it takes a light or two and they are not terribly expensive I will buy one, so pleasellllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

(goes w/o saying that I love your work!)
THANKS!!
You know...no lighting equipment. I have my own horses on my property, I live on a hill that catches the light as it goes down and I have PS to darken my shadows if they are not dark enough.
My horses are particularly vain and do a lot of "posing" and "staring" so when I see them in the light I want, I shoot. I love the curves and lines of a horse and this type of light shows it the best.
I have frequently shot horses in front of the opening to a big barn or with dark shadows in the background using a shallow DOF in order to pick up the black.
It just depends on the circumstances really. Horses don't always cooperate and you have to be on your game...if you want to catch a moment that just happens.
You know all that though since you shoot wildlife too (beautiful work by the way!)
I only know a few people who have a studio for horses and it is a big production. Once you put a horse in an awkward position, they lose that natural intensity that we love in the first place. So running around in the bush or camping out when the light rocks, is the best way IMO.
P.S- I DO have a smugmug gallery:D

some of your images remind me very much of Robert Vavra's work
