Coming in for a landing, head in focus, coolest shot I have ever done, maybe. Seen at Shem Creek docks early morning.
Exif above: f16, 400 ISO, 200 mm, 1/60 sec
I saw that bird coming there was no time to think about exif, that is what I had to work with, and I did. Am surprised there is that much blur at 1/60.
Below, he sat himself down on a piling or whatever they are called. I got a photo before he took off, then disappeared.
Exif same as above the shot before except it was at 1/125 sec (this is all on AV)
Next he showed up across the creek at my last stop. He flew to a wire, he was so busy fishing I managed to extricate myself from my car and get these. Many more actually, but they are all similar shots of him sitting on the wire. (Before he came I was attempting to shoot a GBH from the "blind" of my car, didn't work very well, actually.)
Mostly he had his back to me, but he did turn around once and voila! I was shooting with the 400mm (NOT for sale)
I thought that was kinda cool. f9.0, 400 ISO, 400mm, 1/1600
I love it when they are "mussed".
Below, UH OH!
Above, my Canon 20D took that! I just had to trust that it might have found the bird! I can't see that fast. I have lost more shots trying to see the AF lock, checking it even once, so here I just shot, twice, the second one came out!!!! Canon took another shot for me.
Oh, same info, just 1/2000 sec.

And that was my encounter with one, or two Kingfishers. They are around, in and out. Fast and shy!

After all is said and done, it is the sweet tea.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
I've only seen these guys about a mile away laughing at me. :uhoh

Shy little things! I see one, a Great Blue Heron pales............. It was exciting how close I was, that was the 400, so I was not on top of him, but closer than usual.
Thanks again, everyone,
ginger
I really dig the first shot - IMO could use some basic curves adjustment, of nearly any amount - to give it some pop.

Thanks, Jeff,
And if anyone is looking, here is to the person who was "missing" my frames, I had the time.................looks and feels good!
And to Andy for the kick that got me going:
I needed to have that photo be right! I will certainly never be able to do it again, since I have no idea how I did it this time! Just put the time in, I guess.
I should/will work to pop all of them a bit, but this one was a shame. If anyone wonders, the original version is still on here, at the top!
Anyway, thanks all,
ginger
Sorry, I shoulda, woulda, coulda done that in the first place, and I still see a place on the last one to patch up. I have had so many photos to work up! So busy, so sick.
I am just glad to have had the chance to take these photos.......... So they should be presented well.

They move so fast, I never get a good look at them. Good job, thanks
