Collect Hidden Photos

Is there a way to smart collect hidden photos by year taken or keywords? I have a folder that houses smart galleries that collects photos based on year taken. I hid all the photos, for example, in the 2009 year taken (01/01/2009 - 12/31/2009) gallery, but all the photos were removed from the smart gallery. The photos are still in their housed galleries, but I would like the smart gallery to still collect the hidden photos based on the smart rule by year taken.
