I'm going to be photographing my neighbor's 7th grade football team this season. Just talked to the coach tonight, have the "all ok" to do the rest of the season. He's going to promote me to the parents. Really cool of him to do so.

I'd like to do something special. I think the fact I have a better camera than most the parents, and access to the sidelines, isn't enough. I'd like to do a collage for the parents. Here is my first pass.

Cool idea, and congratulations on the opportunity. That should be a very rewarding assignment.

Feedback on the poster: I'm not even close to having an educated opinion, so let me pass on some stuff I learned while taking a course on advertising posters.

There has to be a hierarchy of things that the eye looks at. Often, size is what determines the hierarchy; the biggest thing draws the eye first, and then on down by size, as long as things are laid out in a way that lets the eye flow.

What this means is that one thing needs to dominate. Right now, your poster is cut in two, with two images of equal size and importance. And your fontwork is roughly the same size. The eye doesn't really know where to go first, and so the impact of the poster is lost. Simple, strong designs seem to work best. Check out movie posters - usually a single, powerful image, a big title, a smaller subheading, then the fine print. Same deal with print ads in magazines (although lately some have deliberately gone against the traditional method.)

JMHO, hope some of it helps.
    Sid.

I'd second what wxwax said about composition.

I would also find a stronger, more masculine font.

And maybe lose the "on", so it would be "any given tuesday"

    Here's some inspiration.

I'm too young to have memory problems. I thought the original movie title was "On Any Given Sunday". Oops! Good ideas on the composition, font, etc. Thanks! I'll change the font, and pick a different bottom picture where the players are not as large and prominent.

Aside from agreeing with all the above on the poster............ I think it is a great idea and should be popular.

I would have bought one when my son was playing football.

ginger (I like the coloring, too)
After all is said and done, it is the sweet tea.

Great feedback. Everyone needs to remember this as the time that Bill started to not despise Photoshop. :)

And Andy, I might actually start liking shooting in RAW too. OMG! I can see I'm on a downward spiral already. :) First Photoshop, then RAW. What could be next?

    Three more
Ok, here are three different posters. Same top photo, but different bottom photo. Trying to get the bottom to be the second item that draws the attention to the viewer, by having the individual shot above be the first attention grabber. Any better?

    Thanks again!

Ok here's my 2 cents worth. Although I wouldn't use it, I think the first one is actually better then the the last three.

Ok how about this.....Take a wide angle photo of the team lined up, maybe in front of the goal posts. Use this as a background. Fade or blur to taste, and to ensure it does not take away from the main person in the photo. Put the photo of the individual in front, size and position accordingly with type.

    That's my idea,

Good idea. I've been trying to take existing shots, none of which were taken with this idea in mind, and make them work, which isn't happening.
