Intermittent 404

I'm noticing intermittent 404 responses for images returned from the api. I have an app that shows all the images in a gallery, however; random images don't load (giving 404). If I refresh the page, it loads. If I copy the original url (before refreshing) and put it into my browser which would be a hot link to the image on smugmug, it returns a 404 and when I refresh it loads. I've only noticed this today and it seems random. Was there an outage or CDN purge earlier today?
