I hear, like you have no doubt have done too, about hairy caterpillars that some can have an effect on skin - whether this is all or some though is unclear. If this ones can cause a rash, it didn't me cos I moved it to safety from where I found it (crossing the road outside my house!!!) into the garden for it's photoshoot - problem being, when it was crossing the road it moved really quickly - and again as soon as it was moving on a plant I used for artistic purposes, it still managed to shift at a rapid rate of knots!
I think is the caterpillar of the white ermine moth (orange stripe for ID).

Yes, Paul, some tropical species can be fatal.
