custom button?

I have a feeling this will be a quick trip to "no", but... is it possible to add a custom button to a gallery or photo?

I'd really like a "buy" button that went somewhere other than Smugmug's print UI, which just doesn't do it for me, sorry...

You are correct. There is no way that I can see to add a button.
