Eristalis hoverflies have the aquatic larvae known as "rat-tailed maggots".
I usually find E. tenax the Drone Fly. The patterns are variable in both species but this one has the yellow front tarsi.
These were on ragwort yesterday.
I think the first image is of a female and the second is definitely a male.
Olympus EM-1 (manual mode), Olympus 4/3 x2 TC, Olympus 4/3 50mm f2 macro, 1/160 at f10 ISO 250, hand held.

Nice Only seen one drone this year and it was particularly active so couldn't photograph it.
