Volucella zonata Through Printing Nikkor 105mm on A7r3
I recently posted some images of hoverflies on ivy flowers from my EM-1 m4/3 using my regular 50mm macro lens and x2 TC.
These are from the A7r3 full frame using the 105mm Printing Nikkor. I previously also uploaded images of Eristalis from this session.
I saw numerous hoverflies feeding on ivy flowers in the late afternoon sun. The light was very harsh but there had been no sun earlier in the day.
I grabbed the lens, forgetting that I had shortened the extension. On my A7r3 FF the FOV was about 50mm wide and there was some vignetting of the corners. The lens was still inside its optimum magnification range and I needed the wider field of view for these huge flies. However, I needed f11 for DOF and this is the least good aperture for this lens.
There was a lot of movement of the flowers from gusting breeze such that these are the only really sharp images of this species.
The stereo is crosseye.
