Black and White from Color

Here are some attempts at making black and white shots from color. Tell me what you think. I converted these in photoshop, made an adjustment layer taking the saturation to zero. Then added other adjustment layers to change the image as I see fit - can still modify colors that way and have it show in the B&W. Has anyone else done B&W conversion in a better way?

Canon S50 for the fun stuff, Olympus OM-4T for the serious stuff.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
