It isn't often that the immediate surroundings of a fungus draws attention to it. More often, it distracts and draws the eye away.

The concentric rings in the bark of the stump of a well-rotted tree branch is, on this occasion, helping to make the coral fungus the focal point of the frame.

The height of the colony was something like 4cm.

Olympus EM-1, (aperture priority), Olympus m4/3 30mm f3.5 ED macro, 1/5 at f8 ISO 3200, hand-held.

The stereo is crosseye.
