Can someone tell me if and how I can number the photos consecutively in a gallery? Thanks

There isn't an option to consecutively number the photos in a gallery.

There is a gallery setting that allows you to show the file name of the photo. Maybe that would help.

There is also a customization that was created a while back that shows a number for each photo in a gallery if you are using the Collage Landscape, Collage Portrait, Journal and Thumbnail gallery styles (SmugMug style galleries show a number by default). I assume the customization still works given that the demo from this page works. (Note that I haven't tested this customization to verify.)

I can confirm that the numbering customization still works in collage style. I use it in all my public galleries.

There is one gallery style that does show the sequence of consecutive numbers. The SmugMug Gallery style shows the numbers of images in this way. https://share.getcloudapp.com/bLux7RRR
