Overcast dreary day here. I took a two hour walk though Mesker Park Zoo.
Mesker Park is a very small local zoo. I grew up just a mile from it and could walk through it blindfolded. Comments welcomed

Yep it helped. Practiced trying to focus through fences on the lions and tigers, etc. Those didn't come out to well. I got the fences blurred out but the animals were still a tad blurry. The indoor shots.... well we won't talk about those. Practice more Practice.

Wow, I haven't seen Mesker Park since this shot from over 50 years ago.:): Three monkeys who escaped from the Monkey Ship behind the moat. Is the monkey ship still there??

    Path is that you????? Laughing.gif
OHhh the Monkey Ship is alive and well. No monkeys on it, but it has been refurbished and still sails. Hehe. They now have those little motor boats that the kids can ride around on. I could be rich with all the coins I've thrown in the Monkey Ship over my lifetime.

The goldfish pond and the sea lions displays were torn down years ago. Most of the stone work in the park was built by the WPA in the 30's. My grandfather was forman of the work crews. I have a beautiful picture of my mother sitting on one of the walls. I should scan that and post it in the oldies thread.

A couple of years ago the lions were removed from the open air display and put into cages. :uhoh The male got hold of his keeper of 25 years arm and almost tore it off, then they deemed the exhibit unsafe for staff. ne_nau.gif

Bunny, our elephant has been sent to a park in Nashville clap.gif to be with other elephants.

Donna, the hippo will be 51 in July and there will be a big blow out for her. She's made the Guiness World book of records already as the oldest living hippo. She's a treat to see. Kids feed her lettuce and she opens in a big ole yawn when her keepers say Donna open!

Renovation and restoration is going strong. I'm a supporting member and you will see more from the zoo, I'm sure. It's 75 acres with hills and lakes is my favorite place to walk and get a way for a bit.

Nice captures Dana. They do look a tad soft. Tough to get good lighting when the dang sun doesn't cooperate, but you've made the best of it. I think I might have shot the emu a little more to the right to try and get a head and shoulders shot, instead of losing a bit of the hind and front end.

Yes I think that would make it a better shot.
They are such funny birds. I was leaning over the fence and wonder at what moment he was going to snatch my lens. :): My sister had one as a pet on her farm in Florida and that thing went straight for your glasses.
