Despite being wonderful insects (and remarkable mothers to their young) the common garden earwig while so photogenic, make me shudder (from tales as a kid where we were told they go in your ears and eat your brains!)

Back in the 1960s, they were a major pest of dahlia flowers but I have seen very few in recent decades.
