I have found this species a few times, in recent years, but it took me a long time to recognise what it as. These are photographs I took in October 2019, not then knowing which species it was.

This species has mature fruiting bodies which can vary in colour through brown to grey, sometimes almost black. The grey form gives it the name “plubea”, Latin for lead.

The spreading younger stage (plamodum) emerges from the substrate (rotting wood) and forms the fruiting body.

Olympus EM-1, (aperture priority), Olympus 4/3 50mm f2 macro, 1/50 sec at f9 or 1/30 at f9 ISO 400 and 1/400, 1/500 or 1/800 sec at f9 to f11 ISO 400.

I have stereos to upload tomorrow.
