Color help

Hello...I must be doing somethingwrong. I am trying to change my site from one theme to another, a completely different color change. I am able to do it mostly except no matter what I do my "portfolio" will revert back to black even if I change it to my theme that has white as a main color. Is there something somewhere preventing my site from accepting the customization?

@cmichaels it would help if you gave a link to your site
Did you have customizations in form of CSS Code for your original design running, if so these could prevent your new color choice from sticking.
