Maximum Display Size

Hello!

I have Maximum Display Size set to "Original" in one of my Galleries but the image still only takes up a fraction of the screen. How do I get it to fill the available screen area? What am I missing?

How large are the images (the size of the file)? I'm guessing that the actual file size doesn't support displaying the photo any larger.
