Hello all,
It was a drizzly, overcast day yesterday and not worth going anywhere to shoot pics. So I decided to go out and get some hummers, in the backyard, with my 400mm +1.4X TC. The minimum focusing distance is like 10 feet and these were shot from right about there. The poor light had me using ISO800 and 1/200 handheld, wide open :uhoh
No in-flight shots at that slow speed, but I was prety happy that I could handhold it at 1/200 and the detail is pretty good considering the $80 TC on the end of this $1100 lens :rolleyes
My Bigma was always a little slow on the focusing, a little slow on the aperture and has a long minimum focusing distance. So I was using my 70-200mm with the 1.4X TC for shooting hummers. It looks like I found a decent alternative
Thanks for looking,
Steve

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
hoping this message finds you well -Ian
Thanks John I can't wait until the light is good enough so that I can try ISO400
Thanks for looking,

Shooting hummers in the backyard is my kind of bird shooting. Close to the fridge and the stove.....lol

Yeah, that TC was a steal Unfortuately, I had to pay $1100 for the lens I attached it to..... Still, it was a good deal

Yeah, the detail didn't amaze me as much as being able to handhold at 1/200.....lol
Thanks for taking the time to comment,

I am impressed also. It's going to cost me my Bigma, but that 400mm lens sure is nice

Start saving for a 500mm :uhoh That's going to take more than pennies...lol First I will have to win the lottery, then I'd probably have to pay for a divorce attorney. My wife wasn't crazy about the 400 purchase. She'd flip if I spent the price of a used car on another lens....
Geeze, maybe you can get Linda to talk some sense into the girl :lol

Yep, I marvel at the detail of these small birds and how much of that detail you can capture if you can lay enough megapixels on 'em

Yeah, shocked the poop outta me too.... I've never been known for my steady hands That's why I shoot birds and sports. Cuz the high shutter speeds help mask my shakiness

That hummingbird feeder is worth every penny we paid for it (like 5 bucks....lol). It has brought us so much enjoyment :
