file names displayed instead of IPTC titles

I recently noticed that on many of my photos, the embedded IPTC titles aren't being displayed, instead they're replaced with file names. I hadn't looked a my gallery in a while, but I'm pretty sure this was not the case in the past. It's not even consistent - all my photos have IPTC titles, descriptions and keywords embedded, but in some cases the IPTC titles are displayed while in others its the file name. However, it seems the problem is more common with newer files (more recently uploaded). When I open those photos in the SM editor, I see the file name as the title - it appears the embedded IPTC was never read correctly.

I can't see anything wrong with these files, they've all be uploaded to POD sites where the titles display correctly. I can't spend time finding and hand-editing all these photos on SmugMug and typing in the correct titles - especially if they might change back, later.

Is there anything I can do about this?
