Excellent work Keith. Great detail and lovely backgrounds.

Keith,
I like them all. That goldfinch is a knockout
I see the same issues Steve brought up. Head and eye sharpness versus wing/body sharpness. Looks almost like you were working with a 1 inch DOF. I've seen this bigtime, since I started shooting smaller birds with the 400mm +1.4X TC. If you're close enough to fill quite a bit of the VF with them, and you are shooting wide open, the DOF gets mighty thin. I think this issue is made worse when your lensface is at an angle to the subject (like it is when shooting from the ground at a subject in a tree).
Appreciate the comment!
And I agree - depth of field with a 400mm lens up close can be a challenge if the light isn't bright. Just so you don't accuse me of discriminating, here's one more - a purple finch (I like this one as much as the Goldfinch...)

Nice shots.
#1 - I really like the balance of the branch and bird on this one. Well composed. Great background, lighting, etc.
#2 - The eye / head doesn't look quite as sharp as the wing, Reflection on the eye is kind of 'funny' . Again great composition and balance.
#3 - technically sharp. I wish the head was turned a little either way to see a little more eye.
great bokeh throughout.

Still, they are all nice. Good job
