our small town zoo

our local zoo is open all year, and boy was it cold last weekend. the layout is not conducive to shooting at all, with heavy chain link all over. i got a couple of decent ones of the wolf and the turkey. with the tiger i left the fence in, because it was sad to see him by himself, just pacing the fence line.

i love the texture on the turkey, but couldn't quite get away from the fence interference

the background on the wolf was rather dark, so i deepened it a little to hide the fence behind him. this one was shot through the chain link.

and the poor tiger.

Nice work there. The wolf shot is super. I like the tiger in spite of the fence. It sure gives justification for his sad look. I always have the same problem at our zoo - can't get clean shots because of the fences. I feel sorry for the caged animals.

I agree, I really dig the wolf shot, too...

I think zoos in the U.S. have gotten better; more natural enclosures with more roaming space (which makes viewing harder)... and there's certainly no way most people can get to Africa, India, Alaska, etc. to see these wonderful creatures. Even if they don't look their best all caged up, they still amaze those who have never seen them in person before.

It probably helps raise a little bit of conservation awareness, too.

    Oops, </thread highjack>. Nice pictures, that's what we're here for. <img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/6029383/emoji/thumb.gif" border="0" alt="" >

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
