This is the only time I have knowingly seen this species. It was on pony dung. It also occurs on cow dung.

This was in an enclosure with an adult pony and donkey. We were warned that they we approaching and being on my knees was no longer a good idea. So I grabbed two images and retreated. I would have like more DOF.

I couldn't work out why the fly was not in sharper focus but the stereo shows it to be on a blade of grass behind the mushroom.

Olympus EM-1, (aperture priority), Olympus 4/3 50mm f2 macro, 1/160 at f9 ISO 500, hand-held.

The stereo is crosseye.
