is there a way to change the background color of the slideshow content block from black to white?

If you're not using the cart, you can probably just add this to your theme's custom CSS section:

/* White Lightbox Background */
.sm-user-ui .sm-lightbox-v2-navbar,
.sm-user-ui .sm-lightbox-v2-sidebar,
.sm-user-ui .sm-modal-mask.sm-lightbox-v2-modal-mask[data-opacity="opaque"] {
  background-color: white;
}
